David Stephen Magyar, 81, Ebensburg, died peacefully on May 26, 2024 at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. Born March 26, 1943 in Colver. Son of Stephen and Margaret (Bisko) Magyar. Preceded in death by parents and wife Carolyn (Green) Magyar who passed away on 2/11/16.Survived by children Paul (Denise) Magyar, Cathryn (Tim) Supple and Stephanie (Bill) Scott. Grandchildren Hannah (Justin) Griffith and great grandson Wesson Griffith, who always visited his Great Pap at the nursing homes and played trucks and shared french fries, Walter (Melanie) Scott, Brian Scott, Joshua (fiancé Lisa) Magyar and Brittany (Eric) Reitler. Brother Alan (Connie) Magyar. Also several other great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. David was a lifelong member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Colver. He also served in the United States Army from 1964-1966. Over the years, David worked in the coal mines for Bethlehem Mines, the Greenwich Collieries, and at the Colver Tipple for the C&I Railroad. He also worked at Johnstown Corporation as a steel worker for many years, as well as various other jobs that always kept him busy. He finished his career as a Wet Plant Operator for Eastern Associated Coal Company, from which he retired on 8/1/2005. He was an avid hunter and would walk many miles a day to hunt deer, rabbits, ground hogs and ringnecks. He also rode his motorcycle many miles over the years. He was a very accomplished and accurate horseshoe player in his younger days, and often bragged about his 97/100 ringers. He took great pride in his home which he built himself back in the early 70's. He will best be remembered for his stories which he would tell over and over again. He was always looking for someone to talk to about the good old days. He would even break out in song at times to keep the grandkids interested. Special thanks to David's neighbors who were always there to help him out with anything he needed when he was still living at home. And a very special thank you to the exceptional, compassionate and caring staff at Excela Health Hospice Care for making David's last few days comfortable and peaceful. Per David's request there will be no viewing. Private arrangements are being made by the family through Matevish & Matevish Funeral Home, Ebensburg. Committal, Holy Family Cemetery, Colver.
