Ronald J. “Ronnie” Patrick of Hollidaysburg, formerly of Patton, passed away on Thursday November 21,2024. He was born on Jan 12, 1935 in Bakerton, the son of the late Sarahellen (Smith) and John Patrick. He was also preceded in death on May 9, 2024 by his wife of 66 years, the former Rosalie H. Weakland and previously by his brother Donald J. “Corky” Patrick.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his children: Coleen (Raymond) Trexler in High Point NC, Rhonda in Canton Ohio, Donald in Patton, Julie (David) Perez in Riverside CA, Stephanie (William) Avera in Dana Point CA. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Jessica Chelik, Jeannine Kranchick, Aaron Patrick, Dr. Stephanie Trexler, and Shane and Samantha Avera, and nine great grandchildren: Jace and Colton Peterson, Shelby and Charlotte Chelik, Kennedy, Christian, and Conor Kranchick, and Henry and Julian Patrick.
Ronnie graduated from Patton High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy and graduated from Great Lakes Naval Hospital Corps School. He served as a Medical Corpsman to the United States Marine Corps in the Korean War. After the war he worked in Akron, OH but then returned to Patton and worked for the Cambria County Farm Bureau and was the last employee of the Patton Clay Works before it closed. He retired after 30 years as an engineer for The Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central, and Conrail. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was especially proud of his garden after retirement.
Ronnie is remembered as an amazing fast pitch softball pitcher for the Sons of Italy. He also played baseball for Ebensburg in the Cambria County Industrial League. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and was blessed to have them all attend their 60th wedding anniversary reunion.
At the request of the deceased there will be no viewing.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00am on Monday November 25, 2024 at Ss. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, 516 Palmer Ave, Patton PA.
