Steve Deskevich, 93, of Ebensburg, PA passed into eternal life on October 24th, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Steve was a kind and gentle man who was born on January 25, 1932, in Nanty Glo, PA, son of the late Michael and Anna (Spinner) Deskevich. Steve was the beloved husband of Millie (Descavish) Deskevich. They were married on May 19, 1956, at the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in Revloc, PA. Steve and Millie’s 69- year marriage taught all of us a beautiful lesson about true love and devotion.
Steve is a U.S. Army Veteran who served during the Korean War and was stationed at Yokohama, Japan. He worked at the Franklin and Lower Cambria Blast furnaces for the Bethlehem Steel Corporation for nearly 40 years until his retirement in 1992.
Not one to remain idle for long and with a strong desire to remain active, he went to work for the Cambria County Community on Aging, driving a van and assisting the elder community. Although Steve was a “Senior” himself, he never saw himself as one. He was a favorite and treasure to his “riders” and the people he helped along his route. He went above and beyond, never turning down a request to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Steve was an avid fisherman and hunter. In his early days, he was an expert archer and won many “shoots” evidenced by an array of trophies. Steve spent many days teaching and encouraging his sons, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and anyone who wanted to learn how to fish. He tied his own flies, the “Adams” was a favorite, but his favorite lure was the Niti-1.
He also joined in on his sons’ activities and sports when he served as a Cub Scout Leader for Pack 283 and a coach for their Moose boys’ Little League baseball team. His wife and his sons and later his grandchildren were his life, love, pride and joy.
Steve is survived by his wife, Millie and his three sons, Deacon Stephen (Karen) of Moon Township, PA; Thomas (Kathy) of Ebensburg, PA; and David (Eileen) of Johnstown, PA. He was also blessed with six grandchildren; Craig Deskevich, Sandra (Deskevich) Taylor; Ashley Deskevich; and Danielle (Deskevich) Houck, Matthew Deskevich, and Kelly (Deskevich) Keith.
Survived also by sisters, Ann (Ed) Sabo, Irene Nestor and many nieces and nephews. Steve was predeceased by his brothers Michael, Joseph, John, Andrew, and sisters Mary and Catherine.
A special thank you to all of Steve’s caregivers who tenderly cared for Steve especially Asera Care Hospice, the VA home base primary care team, and PA Home Life.
